About SANSKRITI

Think of a social life without any festivals. How boring and monotonous it would be! Similarly think of a college life without a cultural fest. It’s just unthinkable.

The idea of college cultural festivals emerged in the late seventies. And JU, like in many other sectors, was a forerunner. In the year 1978, a group of enthusiastic students gave the preliminary shape to an idea called SANSKRITI. Over the years SANSKRITI has gone through many evolutions and revolutions and finally in 2008, it’s all set to celebrate its 30th birthday with a blast.

A pleasant relief from our class rooms and laboratories, it is the most awaited event at the JU campus, where it is given the respect of a ‘second DURGA PUJA’. It’s filled with fun and music and at the same time tests the creative limits of students as well as their management skills. To us SANSKRITI is not an event, it is a concept; it is like weaving reality with threads of a dream.

Thirty years…. the child has grown, but, believe me, the dream is still alive.

"Sanskriti" is Jadavpur University"s annual cultural festival. The three faculties of Jadavpur University, i.e. Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering and technology organize three different annual cultural festivals. All of them are named "Sanskriti". Like every year, Faculty of Engineering and technology, J.U. is organizing Sanskriti in March 2005.

In Sanskriti there are number of events, some of which are competitive events and some are exhibition events. Among competitive events we have Quiz, Antakshari, Choreography, Eastern and Western music competitions, Game show etc. Among exhibition events there are performances by some eminent performers. Hemanta Mukherjee, Manna Dey, Anjan Dutta, Kabir Suman, Srikanta Acharya and many more have made the evenings melodious. Rock bands like Orient Express, Indian Ocean, Krosswindz, Bhumi, Chandrabindoo, Parikrama have stage the set on fire. The renowned Mohiner Ghoraguli, the old bandwagon, has also performed in Sanskriti. In the year 2003 it was the turn of Euphoria to set the stage on fire. They gave a spell bounding performance infront of a crowd of 10,000.

We have the heritage of doing things differently and we invite you to be a part of it.
